Woodwinds at Texas State

Woodwind Faculty
TXST Woodwind Faculty

The Woodwind Area of the School of Music at Texas State University provides excellent instruction from highly qualified and professionally active faculty members. Opportunities are available for all students to develop the skills necessary to prepare them for successful careers as music educators and performers. A wide variety of performing opportunities includes concert bands, orchestra, chamber ensembles and marching band.
The woodwind studios have individual requirements that cater to the unique needs of each instrument. In addition to weekly lessons, students attend studio classes where they perform and learn about technique, stage presence, practice methods, audition preparation, and share musical ideas with others from their own studio. In the oboe and bassoon studios, there are also regular reed-making classes and mixed chamber music ensembles. The flute, clarinet and saxophone students have the opportunity to perform in the Texas State Flute Choir, Clarinet Choir and Saxophone Quartets
Students also have opportunities to enjoy faculty and guest artist recitals, master classes and lectures on campus as well as hearing their own professors perform in various professional orchestras in Central Texas including the Austin Symphony, Austin Opera, Mid-Texas Symphony and Victoria Symphony and in numerous chamber music concerts.
Audition requirements vary slightly for each studio in the Woodwind area. Please consult the School of Music website under "Prospective Undergrad" or "Prospective Grad", then click on "Becoming a Music Major". On that page you will find links for each Woodwind studio to find individual audition requirements.
