Corey Sansolo

Corey Sansolo joined the School of Music at Texas State University as a Lecturer in 2025. Additionally, he is the director and founder of the DC Trombone Workshop and trombonist with the Axiom Brass quintet and the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra. Recently, Corey was a featured performer on Christian Lindberg's recital at the International Trombone Festival in Canada, has had several releases from European Gramophone of music featuring Christian Lindberg with Axiom Brass, recorded music for the Netflix release of Little House on the Prairie, and performed with Laufey at Lollapalooza.

Corey has performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra. Additionally, he has made guest appearances as principal trombone for the Detroit Opera Orchestra, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Ballet, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and Peoria Symphony Orchestra.

Corey has also performed at the Paramount Theatre in Chicago for productions of Frozen, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Cinderella, Dreamgirls, and The Full Monty as well as in concerts with the Chicago Philharmonic, Grand Rapids Symphony, National Philharmonic, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, American Pops, and Washington Opera Society and has served as second trombonist with the York Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his chamber work with the Axiom Brass, he has performed with the Tower Brass, the Washington Trombone Ensemble, and The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass. As a soloist, Corey has been a finalist in competitions for the International Trombone Association and the American Trombone Workshop. Versatile across many genres, he has performed with Laufey, Sarah McLachlan, Sleeping at Last, Streetlight Manifesto, Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution, San Fermin, Oshima Brothers, and Marian McLaughlin's Spirit House Ensemble.

Corey previously served as instructor of trombone at Valparaiso University, instructor of trombone and euphonium at Millikin University, and instructor of low brass at McHenry County College.  His students have been finalists in the American Trombone Workshop National Solo Competition and the US Army Orchestra Concerto Competition and have earned scholarships and assistantships to continue their musical studies at prestigious universities. He has taught masterclasses at Indiana University, Baylor University, Oberlin Conservatory, University of Iowa, Western Michigan University, University of Arkansas, Texas Lutheran University, Grambling State University, and Blinn College and given clinics at Northwestern University, University of Chicago, University of British Columbia, and Northern Illinois University. Additionally, Corey has taught chamber music and brass sectionals for the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras and Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras.

Corey received his Bachelor's of Music Degree and Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music and his Master's of Music degree at the University of Maryland. He attended the National Orchestral Institute, the Chautauqua Music Festival, and the Miami Music Festival. His teachers include Craig Mulcahy, Dr. John Marcellus, Andrew Chappell, John Huling, and Dale Cheal.
