Kelly Laws

Kelly Laws is from Austin, Texas. Professor Laws holds her Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Master’s Degree in Education from Southwest Texas  (Texas State) University. She is excited to be teaching at her alma mater!

Ms. Laws taught in Austin ISD for 29 years with 25 years in the elementary music classroom and 4 years in the 4th grade Bilingual classroom. She holds Texas Certifications in All Level Music, Special Education, Bilingual Education, Elementary Classroom, and Administration. During her career, she chose to work primarily in low-income schools and is particularly proud of her 100 member award-winning East Austin show choir, the Sims Silvertones. Ms. Laws has presented at the TMEA, CEDFA, and OAKE conventions and frequently presented workshops that included model lessons with her students in demonstrations of the Kodaly Approach. She was voted Teacher of the Year 3 different years by her fellow colleagues.

Currently Professor Laws teaches Music for the Elementary Classroom here at Texas State.
