Elizabeth Chappell

Dr. Elizabeth Chappell is pleased to be joining the Texas State faculty as Assistant Professor of String Music Education and string music education consultant for the String Project. Prior to this appointment, she served on the faculty and directed the String Projects at the University of North Texas in Denton and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Dr. Chappell currently serves as the NAfME History SRIG chair, the Associate Editor of the American String Teacher Journal, and the TexASTA president. 

An active clinician, adjudicator, and researcher, Dr. Chappell received her master's and PhD in Music and Human Learning from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music Therapy from the University of Kansas. She taught strings in Austin for 17 years and spent the majority of that time building orchestra programs in Title I schools. In 2013, she was awarded National Board Certification, recognizing her commitment and accomplishments in the classroom. Dr. Chappell’s recent research has been featured in the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, String Research Journal, and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education.
