String Degree Programs

Undergraduate Degree Programs

Students seeking an undergraduate degree with a primary focus on strings have several choices at Texas State:

  • Bachelor of Music in Performance
  • Bachelor of Music in Music Studies (with all-level teaching certification)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music
  • Bachelor of Science in Sound Recording Technology

Music majors may also pursue a minor in Mariachi, Jazz, or composition, depending on the degree plan. 

Students wishing to continue their studies in music but major in another field may choose to pursue the Minor in Music, and are still eligible to participate in ensembles and take applied lessons, by audition.

Graduate Degree Programs

Students seeking an graduate degree with a primary focus on strings have two choices at Texas State:

  • Master of Music - Music (Performance)
  • Master of Music - Music (Performance and Pedagogy)
  • Master of Music - Music (Jazz Music Performance)
  • Master of Music - Music Education

The Texas State School of Music also offers non-string-specific M.M. programs in instrumental conducting, composition, music theory, and music history/literature.

Students wishing to continue their studies in music but major in another field may choose to pursue a Minor in Music at the graduate level, and may be eligible to participate in ensembles and take applied lessons by audition.

Exceptional students in violin, viola and cello are invited to apply for the Texas State Graduate String Quartet.
