Admission Information

All students seeking to major in music must be admitted to Texas State University. For more information on Texas State, visit www.txstate.edu. An audition is required for consideration of acceptance to an undergraduate or graduate degree program in the School of Music. Auditions are scheduled on Saturdays. Prospective students residing outside Texas may upload a media file to their online application that meets the audition repertoire requirements.

Undergraduate, Music Studies applicants must submit a 250-500 word written statement answering the question "Why do you want to teach music?" to the media tab of your Acceptd application and ensure your application is submitted at least three weeks prior to the audition date selected. This statement will be referenced during a short interview on your audition day. You will also be asked to complete a short aural skills assessment as part of the interview.

A portfolio and an interview are required for admission consideration for graduate students. In order to ensure full consideration for music assistantships, applicants must have a complete application on file (including portfolio) by the Priority Application Deadline, January 15. Application for admission only is open until the Standard Application Deadline, June 15.
